Why foam PVC is ideal for selfie frames

The material matters more than people expect, and foam PVC is the standout choice for a frame that gets handled all day.

  • Lightweight — light enough to hold up comfortably for photo after photo, even for children and older guests.
  • Rigid and stable — it holds its shape and won't flop or sag when held out at arm's length.
  • Doesn't bend easily — unlike thin card, 5mm foam PVC resists creasing and folding through a busy event.
  • Easy to carry and store — light to transport to the venue and simple to prop up between uses.
  • Smooth print surface — reproduces full-colour branding, photos and text crisply and vividly.
  • Durable throughout the event — survives being passed from hand to hand all day and stays looking good.

In short, it's sturdy enough to look premium and light enough to actually use — the balance a good selfie frame needs.

The selfie frame opening

One of the first things buyers ask is about the cut-out — the open window you photograph through. A few things worth knowing as you design:

  • Portrait or landscape. Decide which way your frame will be held. Portrait suits individual and couple shots; landscape suits groups. Design your artwork to match.
  • Keep the opening generous. The window needs to be big enough to frame a group comfortably without hands crowding into the shot — the A1 size gives plenty of room around a well-proportioned opening.
  • Leave a solid border. A border wide enough to hold and to carry your branding is what makes the frame work — too thin and it disappears in photos and is awkward to hold.
  • Custom cut-outs. The opening can be shaped to suit your event — tell us how you'd like it and we'll advise on the layout. [If you have a standard opening size and offer custom shapes, state them here — e.g. "our standard A1 frame has an X × Y opening, with custom shapes available on request."]

If you're unsure, send us your design and we'll help set the opening and border so the frame photographs well and holds comfortably.

Made for every kind of event

Selfie frames earn their place at almost any gathering — here's how different events put them to work:

  • Weddings and celebrations — personalised frames with the couple's names and date that make guest photos part of the day's fun.
  • Hen and stag parties — cheeky, themed frames that get the group snapping and sharing.
  • Baby showers, graduations and school proms — milestone frames that turn photos into keepsakes.
  • Corporate networking events and awards evenings — branded frames that get your logo into professional photos and posts.
  • Exhibition stands and product launches — a stand magnet that draws visitors in and generates social reach on the day.
  • University open days — a fun, shareable prop that spreads the campus experience across prospective students' feeds.
  • Charity fundraising and shopping centre promotions — an interactive draw that spreads your cause or campaign with every shared photo.
  • Sporting events — team colours, sponsors and event hashtags in every supporter's snap.

Why a selfie frame is such an effective marketing and memory tool

A selfie frame works harder than almost any other event print because it turns your guests into your marketing. Someone holds up the frame, takes a photo, and shares it — and your design travels with it. One frame at a busy event can generate dozens or hundreds of branded photos across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and, for corporate events, LinkedIn — each one seen by that person's whole network.

That's what sets it apart from a banner or a flyer. A banner sits still and is seen only by the people in the room. A selfie frame gets photographed, posted and shared, carrying your brand and event hashtag well beyond the venue and long after the day is over.

Common selfie frame design mistakes to avoid

After printing these for all sorts of events, here are the mistakes we see most — and how to avoid them, so your frame actually works in photos.

  • Logo too close to the opening. Place logos where they won't be cut off or covered by faces and hands. Keep them clear of the immediate edge of the window.
  • Hashtag too small to read. The hashtag is the whole point of the shareable reach — make it large and legible enough to read in a phone photo, not tucked away in a corner.
  • Busy background competing with people. The guests are the subject. A cluttered, high-detail background fights with faces — keep the border design clean so people stand out.
  • Borders too thin. A thin border disappears in photos and is awkward to hold. Give the frame a solid, substantial border.
  • QR codes where hands cover them. If you add a QR code, place it where holding the frame won't hide it — not in the bottom corners where fingers naturally grip.
  • Poor colour contrast. Events are often busy or dimly lit. Strong, high-contrast colours keep your branding readable in every photo.

Avoid these and the frame does its job: people want to pick it up, and every photo carries your branding clearly.

Selfie frames vs photo backdrops: which do you need?

Both create shareable event photos, but they work differently — and many events use both.

Roaming fun, spontaneous shots, easy branding
A styled, consistent backdrop for every photo

A selfie frame is portable and interactive — guests hold it up anywhere, so the fun (and your branding) travels around the whole event. A backdrop creates a fixed, styled photo spot. Many events use both: a backdrop as the main photo station and frames handed round for spontaneous shots throughout the day.

Before we print: every frame is checked

Because a selfie frame prints at large A1 size, any issue shows clearly. Before anything goes to press, every frame is checked by our production team for logo and image quality, branding placement, bleed, safe margins and CMYK colour.

The most common issue we see is low-resolution logos or images that look fine on screen but print soft at A1. We flag these before printing so you can supply the original, high-resolution file rather than discovering it once the frame is made.

Frequently asked questions

What is a selfie frame?

A selfie frame is a large, handheld printed frame that people hold up and pose inside for photos. Printed with your design, branding or event hashtag, it turns every guest photo into something shareable — a hugely popular prop at weddings, parties, corporate events, fundraisers and sporting days alike.

What are your selfie frames made of?

Our selfie frames are printed on 5mm white foam PVC — a lightweight, rigid board sturdy enough to hold its shape but light enough to hold up comfortably for a photo. It resists bending, has a smooth full-colour print surface, and stays looking good through a full day of being passed hand to hand.

What size are your selfie frames, and how big is the opening?

Our selfie frames are printed at A1 — large enough to frame a group and make an impact in photos. The generous size leaves plenty of room for a well-proportioned opening plus a solid border for your branding. Tell us your preferred orientation and we'll help set the opening and border.

Can I personalise the frame with names, branding or a hashtag?

Yes — that's what makes a selfie frame work. We print your design, names, logo, colours and event hashtag edge to edge in full colour. Adding a #hashtag is especially worthwhile, as it links every shared photo together and multiplies your reach across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn.

What events are selfie frames good for?

Everything from weddings, hen and stag parties, baby showers, graduations and proms to corporate networking events, awards evenings, exhibitions, product launches, university open days, charity fundraisers and sporting events. Anywhere people take photos, a branded or personalised frame makes those photos shareable.

What's the difference between a selfie frame and a photo backdrop?

A selfie frame is portable and handheld — guests hold it up and pose through it anywhere, so it moves around the event. A backdrop is fixed in one spot as a dedicated photo station. Many events use both: a backdrop for the main photos and frames handed round for spontaneous shots.

How quickly can you print selfie frames?

Our standard turnaround is 3–4 working days. Supplying print-ready PDF artwork keeps things moving, and we check every file before printing — so any issue with resolution, bleed or branding placement is flagged before production rather than causing a delay.

How much do selfie frames cost?

Select your options on this page to see the price, or contact us for a quote — we're happy to advise on artwork and quantities. Because frames are printed to order, we can quote for anything from a single frame for a wedding to a larger run for a big corporate event or multiple venues.

Do you print selfie frames in London and across the UK?

Yes. We're a commercial printer based in Croydon, South London, printing bespoke selfie frames for events across London and delivering UK-wide. Order online, upload your artwork, and we'll print and dispatch your frames ready for your event.
