Why choose A6 postcards?
A6 is the postcard size — the format people instantly recognise as a postcard, and the one that's been carrying messages through letterboxes for over a century. At 105 × 148mm it's compact, unmistakably a postcard, and the most cost-effective size we print, which is exactly why it dominates high-volume direct mail.
The economics are the point. Because A6 is a quarter of an A4 sheet, you get the lowest cost per card of any postcard size — so when you're mailing hundreds or thousands, or handing out cards at an event, A6 stretches your budget furthest. It's also light and compact enough to keep postage costs down, easy to slip into a bag, a wallet or a product box, and quick to hand over at a counter.
Choose A6 when you want the classic postcard look, maximum reach for your budget, and volume. Choose A5 when you need more room for a bigger image or a longer message. In short: A6 wins on reach and cost; A5 wins on space and presence.

Choosing your finish for A6 postcards
At A6, the finish does a lot of the work — there's less surface area, so how the card feels in the hand matters more.
Gloss lamination gives that classic postcard front: vibrant, glossy and instantly familiar. It's what most people picture when they think "postcard", and it makes photographic images pop. Matt lamination is understated and modern, with a smooth, premium feel. Soft-touch adds a velvety texture that makes people hold onto a card rather than bin it — a small upgrade with a real effect on how long your card survives.
Spot UV is especially effective at A6. On a small card, a gloss-varnished logo or headline against a matt background creates instant contrast and draws the eye straight to what matters — a way to make a compact card feel considered and premium.
A production tip from us: at A6, the biggest risk is crowding. The trim is the same 3mm as any card, but on a smaller card that margin represents a much bigger proportion of your design — so text placed "close to the edge" on screen is far more likely to be trimmed than it would be on A5 or A4. Keep type well inside the safe zone and let the card breathe; small cards are more forgiving of white space than of clutter.
How your A6 postcards are printed
Every order is produced using a calibrated CMYK workflow for accurate, consistent colour. Because A6 cards are printed multiple-up on a larger sheet, colour consistency across the sheet matters — so the sheets are checked before trimming, cut down to A6, inspected, then finished with your chosen lamination or spot UV before packing. That trim-and-inspect step is where a small card either looks sharp and professional or doesn't.
How much can you fit on an A6 postcard?
A6 rewards discipline. The size is a feature, not a limitation — it forces the clarity that makes postcards work. As a guide:
- Front: one image, one headline, one offer. Nothing else. That's what makes an A6 card land in the two seconds someone looks at it.
- Back: the detail — a short paragraph, a discount code, contact details, terms and your call to action.
- One call to action. On a card this size, two competing asks cancel each other out.
If your message genuinely won't fit that discipline, that's the signal to step up to A5 rather than shrink your type. A cramped A6 card performs worse than a clear one.
Who orders A6 postcards?
A6 suits anyone who needs reach, volume and a recognisable postcard format:
- Estate agents — high-volume local mail drops and new-listing cards.
- Restaurants, cafés and takeaways — offers, opening announcements and menu drops.
- Retail shops — sale promotions, discount cards and in-bag inserts.
- Charities — appeals and supporter mailings where volume matters.
- Gyms, salons and clinics — appointment reminders, offers and referral cards.
- Event promoters — flyer-style handouts at venues and on the street.
- Online sellers — thank-you cards and discount codes tucked into parcels.
That last one is worth highlighting: A6 is the perfect size for a parcel insert. It slips into almost any box, costs little at volume, and turns a delivery into a repeat-purchase prompt.
A6 postcards as a direct mail and marketing tool
Postcards punch above their cost as marketing, and A6 punches hardest on price. There's no envelope to open — your message and offer are visible the instant the card is picked up or lands on the doormat. Combine that with the lowest per-card cost of any postcard size and you have direct mail that's genuinely affordable at scale.
- Add a discount code to make the campaign trackable.
- Use them as handouts at events, in store or as door drops.
- Insert them into parcels as a thank-you and repeat-purchase nudge.
- Send reminders — appointments, renewals and win-backs.
Getting your artwork right for A6 postcard printing
Supply your artwork as a print-ready PDF to these specifications:
- 3mm bleed all round — extend your background to the bleed so there are no white edges after trimming.
- 3mm safe zone — keep text and key content 3mm inside the trim. This matters most at A6, where the margin is proportionally larger.
- 300 dpi minimum resolution.
- CMYK colour.
- Fonts outlined or embedded.
- For double-sided, supply both front and back artwork.
If you're using spot UV, supply a separate layer or marked-up file showing where the UV should sit. Not sure your file's right? Upload it and we'll check it before printing.
Before we print: every A6 postcard is checked
Before your A6 postcards go to press, our production team checks your file for resolution, 3mm bleed, safe margins, CMYK colour and — if you've chosen it — correct spot UV placement.
The issue we see most on A6 is type set too small or too close to the trim. A font size that reads fine on A5 can be uncomfortably small on A6, and a margin that looks safe on screen can be tight once trimmed. We flag both before printing, rather than letting you find out across a run of a thousand cards.
How to order your A6 postcards
- Choose your specification above — stock, print sides, lamination, spot UV and quantity.
- Supply your artwork — upload your PDF now, or choose "send it later" for an upload link after checkout.
- We check before printing — resolution, bleed, colour and finish.

Every file is manually checked before production. If we find a low-resolution image, missing bleed or a trim issue, we'll contact you before printing — so your A6 postcards come out right first time.

Frequently asked questions
What size is an A6 postcard?
An A6 postcard measures 105 × 148mm — the classic, instantly recognisable postcard size, and a quarter of an A4 sheet. It's compact, letterbox-friendly and light, which keeps postage costs down, making it the most popular size for high-volume direct mail and handouts.
Why choose A6 postcards over A5?
A6 is the classic postcard size and the most cost-effective, giving you the lowest price per card — ideal when you're mailing or handing out in volume. A5 offers almost twice the printable area for bigger images and longer messages. Choose A6 for reach and budget; A5 for space and presence.
How much does A6 postcard printing cost?
A6 is the most economical postcard size we print, with the per-card price improving as your quantity increases. The final price depends on your stock, print sides and finishes such as lamination and spot UV — select your options on this page to see your price.
Should my A6 postcards be single or double sided?
Double sided is ideal for direct mail — your image and offer on the front, details, terms or a discount code on the back. Single sided suits simple handouts. On a card this size, keeping the front to one image and one message is what makes it work.
What finish should I choose for A6 postcards?
Gloss lamination gives the classic, vibrant postcard front most people picture. Matt is understated and premium; soft-touch adds a velvety feel that makes people keep the card. Spot UV works particularly well at A6 — a gloss logo against matt draws the eye instantly on a small card.
How much information can I fit on an A6 postcard?
Keep the front to one image, one headline and one offer, and put the detail — a short paragraph, discount code, contact details and terms — on the back. A6 rewards clarity over cramming. If your message truly won't fit, step up to A5 rather than shrinking your type.
Are A6 postcards good for parcel inserts?
Excellent — A6 is the ideal size for a parcel insert. It slips into almost any box, costs very little at volume, and turns a delivery into a repeat-purchase prompt. Add a thank-you message and a discount code to encourage the next order.
What artwork do you need for A6 postcard printing?
Supply a print-ready PDF, CMYK, 300 dpi minimum, with 3mm bleed all round and a 3mm safe zone, fonts outlined or embedded. Keep type well inside the safe zone — at A6 the margin is proportionally larger, so edge-crowding is the most common problem. We check every file before printing.
