A4 Perfect Bound Magazines

A4 Perfect Bound Magazines

A4 Perfect Bound Magazine Printing in Croydon, London, and the UK

An A4 perfect bound magazine has the look and feel of a sturdy, refined, and professional quality book. If it's for a business report, a glossy fashion publication, or a creative zine, this style has a way of making your content look more valuable. The square spine alone makes a difference, it's neat, it sits well on a shelf, and people tend to keep it longer.

At I You Print, we help clients across Croydon, London, and the UK to bring their ideas to life with perfect bound magazines. Let's take a look at what makes this format so popular and why it could be the right choice for your next project.

What Makes A4 Perfect Bound Magazines Special?

If you've ever picked up a cheap booklet, you'll know how quickly it ends up forgotten. Perfect binding changes that. The glued spine gives the magazine weight, and the thicker cover adds durability. It feels closer to a paperback book than a disposable handout.

Here's where they're often used:

At I You Print we worked with one of our clients and produced a 72-page catalogue. Instead of stapling or folding, they chose perfect binding. The result looked like a premium product ,which impressed their clients and made their listings stand out.

Sizes

When you're about to start choosing the options, one of the first things to think about is the size. Most of the time people go with an A4 portrait. It's simple, looks professional, and you can carry it without any difficulty. But an A4 landscape sometimes works better. If you've got big photos or wider layouts, portrait can feel a bit tight.

Page Counts

Perfect bound magazines need at least 40 pages to start with. After that, pages are added in groups of four, like 44, 48, 52, and so on, all the way up to around 88 pages. This gives you plenty of flexibility.

  • A slim option might be 44 pages.
  • A thicker catalogue could be 80 pages.
  • A medium length, around 64 pages, works well for community magazines or educational booklets.

Paper Types

The choice of paper stock makes a big difference to the overall look and feel:

  • 90 gsm premium smooth white – lightweight and economical.
  • 100–115 gsm gloss or silk – heavy and shiny.
  • 120 gsm uncoated – natural finish and easy to write on.
  • 130–170 gsm gloss or silk – thicker and eco-friendly.

One of our clients chose 150 gsm silk for their magazine. The design added a professional weight to their monthly booklet while keeping it lightweight. Another client went with gloss to make their photos vibrant.

Cover Options

The cover is the first thing your readers notice. It sets the tone for what's inside. At I You Print, we offer durable cover materials.

  • 250 gsm gloss or silk – smooth and professional.
  • 250 gsm uncoated – natural and with a writable surface.
  • 300 gsm gloss or silk – heavy and premium.

Lamination Options

Adding lamination protects the cover and changes the real feel:

  • Gloss lamination – shiny, bold colours.
  • Matte lamination – smooth and understated.
  • Soft touch lamination – velvety and high-end feel.
  • No lamination – eco-friendly and simple.

Booklets must contain a page total divisible by 4.

It is recommended you do not place words, page numbers or images too close to the edges of each page. We would recommend a safe zone on all sides of at least 10mm for Perfect Bound.
To ensure the best possible finish, please leave the inside spine and 5mm either side of the spine blank as the glue works better on areas with no print.
